  • Overview

    The Senior System Administrator’s primary responsibilities are to engineer and maintain the infrastructure systems at Peet’s Coffee’s (non-retail) locations. This person should have the ability to handle second and third level support issues as well as architect solutions in support of projects or other initiatives.  This person must work as a team player in the IT Department and cross functionally with others in the organization.

     

    Peet’s business consists of over 250 coffee bars across the US.  This position will be based at our home office in Emeryville, CA and will report to the Director of Infrastructure.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for ensuring that the data systems, voice systems and networks are up 24/7, maintaining an industry standard of high availability.  Must be able to respond to the data centers needs on short notice.  
    • Respond to the needs of projects that may require installation of servers, setting up test environments, or modify the configuration of existing equipment.  With more technically focused projects, responsible for managing project from conception to completion.
    • Provide on-call high priority 24/7 technical support as necessary.
    • Make recommendations to improve security and performance.
    • Coordinate internal and/or vendor support resources for incident resolution
    • Manage SAN and NAS systems.
    • Manage VMware ESX farms.
    • Ensure backups and DR replication are completed successfully.
    • Manage Active Directory and Exchange environments.
    • Experience with switch and firewall infrastructure.
    • Experience with IT security and compliance efforts.
    • Assist in the design and architecture of the WAN and LAN.
    • Support and architect solutions as necessary for Store Back-End Systems environment.
    • Interface with other business partners necessary to maintain current environment.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience, ideally the candidate should have a BA/BS Computer Science or related degree.
    • Five years hands on experience managing Enterprise messaging technology using Microsoft Exchange.  Experience with Exchange Online migration, Rich co-existence topology and modern email security preferable.
    • Five years hands on experience managing an Active Directory Domain.
    • Five years hands on experience managing multiple SAN systems.  Experience with Pure Storage and Synology preferable.
    • Five years hands on experience building and managing medium to large multi-site, multi-cluster VMware ESX deployment. Certification is a plus.

     

    • Networking experience with Cisco switches and routers, Juniper and Palo Alto firewalls, VPN devices, Kemp load-balancers.  CCNA certification is a plus. 
    • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, WAN and LAN technologies, system performance tools, VLANS, VPN, routers, switches and network monitor tools. 
    • Experience and knowledge of SOX and PCI compliance is a plus.
    • Experience implementing modern collaboration tools such as O365 Sharepoint, OneDrive for Business, Skype for Business, Team with strong understanding of synchronized identity and SSO integration
    • Experience with successful implementation of DR solutions, iland DRaaS is a plus.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proven procedural documentation skills.
    • Exceptional troubleshooting skills, ability to plan and control projects. 
    • Experience implementing and using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    • Experience with Cloud Computing with solid foundational knowledge of the different Azure SaaS, PaaS, IaaS services
    • IT experience within a retail business is a plus.
