Reporting to the Senior Director of Retail Marketing, the Senior Product Manager of Retail Marketing is responsible for overall management of Peet’s core product categories covering beverages, coffee and food within Peet’s owned Retail stores. This position is part strategy, category management, innovation, and tactical implementation, all of which will drive sales and deliver business objectives. This is a full-time, exempt position with direct reports and is based at Peet’s Emeryville, CA headquarters.

    Responsibilities

    • Partner with the Senior Director, Retail Marketing to develop the strategic menu direction across core categories for growth, customer engagement and overall profitability
    • Evaluates the competitive set, industry trends, consumer insights, and category data to help drive strategic decisions, product development, and annual marketing activities to drive business objectives.
    • Leads new product development initiatives across categories in conjunction with R&D resources, Retail Operations, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Store Development, and key cross-functional and vendor relationships
    • Develops & manages the annual calendar of product launch and promotional activities of core categories to deliver comp sales growth, profitability and meet other retail business objectives.
    • Manages overall assortment, pricing and SKU rationalization to meet or exceed consumer demand and deliver business objectives.
    • Partners with key vendors & internal stakeholders to drive product commercialization & SKU optimization to deliver core category performance and support seasonal offerings.
    • Partners with Retail Operations to test, launch, and drive sales of new items in Peet’s owned retail stores.
    • Partners with Finance to develop annual forecasting, sales planning, SKU management, and pricing models.
    • Partners with Peet’s Retail division to understand and incorporate cross-channel programmatic needs.
    • Partners with Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, and Logistics to help set expectations with, and manage, key vendor relationships across R&D, manufacturing, and distribution.
    • Partners with Legal and QA & Regulatory to evaluate, develop, and monitor programs and processes to ensure compliance with product quality, and evolving menu guidelines at both state and federal levels.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years of retail product category management experience, preferably with top-tier quick service retail company tenure.
    • Proven ability to drive results with a high degree of personal initiative & integrity in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Strategic thinker with instinct for connecting consumer insights to drive business objectives.
    • Experience working within and leading the new product development process for food or beverages including a familiarity navigating Stage Gate models.
    • Skilled at category analysis, including the ability to draw key insights from product mix, sales, and transactional data to inform and guide business decisions.
    • Ability to manage projects across a multitude of product lines and regions with close attention to detail.
    • Excellent problem solving, project management, communication, presentation, and financial management skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain highest-quality cross-functional partnerships both at corporate and field management.
    • Strong ability to influence across all levels within the organization. Highly collaborative mindset
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related fields of study; Master’s degree preferred.
