  • Overview

    The Tax Senior Manager will be responsible for managing tax planning, compliance, and accounting for income taxes for Peet’s Coffee.  The Tax Senior Manager will work closely with service providers, business channels, other internal teams, and parent company to appropriately manage tax risk and deliver on the Company’s goals.  The Tax Senior Manager is a full-time, exempt position.


    • Serve as the company’s lead tax expert and advisor.  Appropriately manage the external service providers.
    • Work closely with finance and accounting teams to complete internal and external deliverables in timely manner, including the income tax provisions under ASC 740.
    • Lead and review, with external partners, all federal and state tax returns.
    • Manage audits and inquiries by federal and state governmental authorities.
    • Research, analyze, evaluate and implement planning ideas with respect to tax return filing positions and operations.
    • Partner with cross functional teams throughout the company to ensure direct and indirect tax is accounted for correctly. Oversee Sales and Use Tax for all aspects of transactional tax (sales tax, use tax, property tax, foreign goods and services tax, etc.).
    • Be the main point of contact on tax related matters for the Microsoft D365 ERP implementation.
    • Drive continuous improvements to the process and methodologies used in the tax department.
    • Advise senior management on ad hoc issues and inform of opportunities available to Company.
    • Coordinate deliverables and projects with tax department from the parent company.


    • Degree in accounting or related field.  Masters in tax and/or CPA license.
    • Minimum 7 years of income tax experience, Big 4 tax experience preferred
    • Detailed knowledge of income tax provision and accounting requirements under US GAAP (ASC 740 and related guidance).
    • Experience demonstrates ability to identify, analyze, and communicate complex income tax issues and their implications to the Company to key stakeholders and senior management.
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
    • Experience with retail and food/beverage a plus
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate with the Accounting/Finance team
    • Flexible mindset and willingness to embrace change
